John Edward McCarty

John Edward McCarty, age 66, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 30, 2023 at Norton Audubon Hospital. He was born and raised in Louisville. and he absolutely loved his family and his very many close friends. John graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1974. He was voted “Most School Spirited”. He contributed much to TJHS where, as a freshman, he began participating in numerous clubs. He was a Student Council Member all four years, a member of the Good News Club and the Pep Club. In addition, he participated in PTSA, Junior Achievement and Spanish Club. Being a loyal supporter of TJ’s athletic teams, John was elected to serve as Pep Club President his Senior Year. Also, he is was our WHAS football correspondent, a member of the Senior Steering Committee and of “The Patriot” staff. John could definitely be seen as a standout student at TJHS. He was always arranging exciting things for the assemblies and never missed an athletic event or any event at school. After attending University of Louisville and working on a degree, John came back to TJ and worked as the bookstore manager and in the office. He was so well liked by all the staff and the students. He was the Class Representative for all of 1974 Class Reunions, and was a very proud Thomas Jefferson Patriot!!!Later on in life, John ended his work experience by working at his beloved Eastern High School in the cafeteria, he loved that time of his life as well. He was always so supportive and so positive. There was never a time when he did not have TJHS on his mind. Mr. Patriot will be greatly missed! Please join us for a Celebration of Life/Pep Rally on July 29th, at Mike Linnigs, 9308 Cane Run Rd, Louisville, KY 40258 at 2:00 pm (White Tent). Dr. Harry Hobbs will be conducting the service. We will sing our fight song and our alma mater in John’s honor. He is predeceased by his parents, Shirley Jean (Weller) McCarty and Gene Edward McCarty Sr, and his two brothers, Gene Edward McCarty Jr. and Terry Dale McCarty. He leaves behind his loving sister, Kimberly K. McCarty (Larry Ciukaj), 2 nephews, and several great nieces and nephews. Tony Ratterman Funeral & Cremation Services at Springhurst is in charge of arrangements. Cremation is chosen. .
