Melissa Weaver

Melissa Louise Weaver, 68 died peacefully at her home in Louisville, Kentucky on August 6, 2023, with her family at her side. Lisa was born on September 24, 1954 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. She spent most of her youth in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and then moved to Fremont, Ohio during her high school years. She excelled in many areas within high school and was valedictorian of her 1972 class. Lisa went on to the Ohio State University where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in microbiology and then went straight on to medical school. She graduated from The Ohio State University Medical school in 1978. Lisa finished her residency in Flint, Michigan in Family Practice and returned to a solo practice in her hometown of Fremont, Ohio as one of its first female physicians. During this time period she married her husband, Michael Miller, (who she had known since high school) in 1980. Mike and Lisa remained happily married for the next forty-three years with sons born in 1984, (Geoffrey) and 1988, (Christopher). Lisa’s career took her from being a solo practitioner in Fremont, Ohio to a move as a faculty physician in Appleton, Wisconsin, (this residency program was part of the University of Wisconsin system) and then finally as a corporate physician for Employer’s Health in DePere, Wisconsin and finally Humana in Louisville, Kentucky. She retired after moving up to the level of Vice President of Clinical Affairs and Strategy. In all of these positions, Lisa was a strong advocate of her patients and a mentor to many individuals. Her integrity and strength of character were evident in her many professional activities and personal friendships. Lisa was a lover of life; her many friends, love of music, (piano and flute) `gardening, genealogy and family historian and her many road trips with her husband and family. Her last year was spent battling ovarian cancer. This battle is now over and she is at peace but will be mightily missed by her friends and family. Lisa’s father, (Miles Weaver), mother, (Margaret Kettles Weaver) and brother, (Martin Laird Weaver) all proceeded her in death. Remaining family include two brothers, Miles Lance Weaver (Sharon) – Pittsburgh, PA and Matthew Lon Weaver (Robin) – Duluth, MN), husband, Michael J. Miller – Louisville, KY), sons Geoffrey Miller (Margaret Coblentz) with grandchildren Liam, Petra and Noemi – San Francisco, CA; and Christopher Miller (Becky) with grandchild Elinore – Asheville, NC. Family and Friends Visitation will be held Saturday, August 12, 2023 from 11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. at Tony Ratter Funerals & Cremation Services at Springhurstt 10210 Westport Rd. Prayers and shared memories at 3:00 P..M... Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to American Cancer Society.
